{ Wedding Sneak Preview }

This weekend De La Rose designed the wedding flowers for my friends Brandon & Nicole's Southern California wedding. The color palette was a delicious champagne and chocolate brown. I love the way they turned out! Here's a little sneak preview of the bouquet and boutonniere. More pics to come...

{ A Citrus Wedding - Part 1 }

There's just something about summer that makes me think of citrus colored flowers. Check out the amazing blooms from Lisa & Rodney's wedding at the Newport Beach Temple. I think they look absolutely fabulous! The lovely Rachel Thurston is to be thanked for the amazing photographs you are about to enjoy.

To view more photos from their afternoon at the temple, visit Rachel's blog HERE and prepare to be amazed.

{ A Citrus Wedding - Part II }

After Rodney & Lisa's temple wedding, friends and family joined the newlyweds for a ring ceremony and a backyard reception in San Clemente. Event Planner & Painter Shauna Lewis turned their gazebo into a whimsical wonderland. I think the floral arrangements provided the perfect punches of citrus against the cream palette. So much flavor and fun! Again, thank the amazingly talented Rachel Thurston for the photographs...

:: Say It With Flowers ::

tulips

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of putting together a beautiful bouquet of flowers for a guy to give to his girlfriend as he asked for her hand in marriage. He asked specifically for pink tulips because he said they were her favorite. Some guys are just so thoughtful. Congratulations on your engagement!

:: August Sunflower Soirée ::

Sunflowers and black and white patterns – two of my favorites combine to make one striking party! The inspiration for this party came from Carolyne Roehm’s book, A Passion for Parties. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s an absolute must-read! Fabulous ideas and tons of eye candy.

Sunflowers are abundant during the summer months – so take advantage of these “happy” flowers and use them for your next birthday or dinner party. Mixed with the bold stripes, the sunflowers create a graphic, modern look.

{ A Succulent Wedding }

A few months back my dear friends Brad & Lacey called me up and asked if I would do the bridal bouquet and boutonniere for their upcoming July wedding. Well, yesterday at the San Diego LDS Temple these two tied the eternal knot sporting these gorgeous succulent creations!

arave_0549 copy

At the request of the bride the bouquet was designed with a grouping of succulents, green cymbidium orchids, and fuchsia gloriosa for a punch of color. For Brad's boutonniere she wanted a simpler approach with a small cluster of green succulents. I'm pretty sure she loved them! Stay tuned for even more amazing photographs from their talented photographer Mike Cunningham of The Digital Orange.

"A Modern Night" - Live Auction

Recently De La Rose had the pleasure of providing unique arrangements for the Orange County Museum of Art's Live Auction, held at the Westin South Coast Plaza. With the theme "A Modern Night," we were asked to create 36 modern succulent branches as the centerpiece for each participant's table. The result was marvelous.

A dear friend of mine called on me to make an arrangement for an engagement party to celebrate our friends Rodney & Lisa. Congratulations you two!

Laguna Dinner Party

Mrs. Miller, a favorite Emerald Bay client of ours, ordered an arrangement for her weekend dinner party. Her only requirement was roses. Lots and lots of roses! We decided to build a scheme around the "Pic" of the Week, Coffee Break. We mixed the roses with a more lively variety called Circus and laced them with lime-colored cockscomb, kermits, cymbidium orchids, and some vibrant orange sprays. This citrus color mix is one of my favorite combinations for the summertime.

Good luck with your dinner party Mrs. Miller. We hope you and your guests enjoy this cheerful arrangement!

London Calling . . .

Apparently De La Rose has reached overseas status! This week we received an unexpected phone call from over 5,000 miles away. A woman calling from London was hoping to find a local flower shop to deliver an arrangement to a fellow London friend living in Laguna Beach. She requested that we use a myriad of purple and pink peonies.

The flowers looked stunning. The following day our little London friend called again to thank us for such kind assistance and to make sure the arrangement was "simply lovely." It was lovely indeed and so was she!

Designer "Pic" Of The Week

This incredible bicolored rose is called Coffee Break. Don't you just love the name? It's almost as if the orange petals were dipped in a cup of coffee and slightly stained. As the flower blooms, it's large head opens into a mystifying bloom. It's quite the attention getter.

What We're Working On . . .

Please pardon the dust. This week De La Rose is busy making 36 centerpieces for a special event put on by The Orange County Museum of Art The event is scheduled to take place this Friday at The Hyatt in Costa Mesa. The theme for the event is "A Modern Night" and De La Rose has been commissioned to design all of the florals.

succulent branch

Instead of the traditional centerpieces you see at every Orange County event, De La Rose will be creating 36 of these modern succulent branches to sit in the middle of a bed of colored stones on each table. We're excited to share photographs of the final design. Stay tuned!

'Tis The Season For Peonies

As is fitting for such a lovely flower, peony plants derive their name from a Greek myth. Paeon, a student under Aesculapius, god of medicine, was well aware of the medicinal qualities of peony plants. He used them to heal a wound suffered by the god, Pluto. The upstaged Aesculapius wasn't pleased and threatened retribution, but, in one of those charming metamorphoses sprinkled liberally throughout the pages of Greek mythology, Pluto saved Paeon's life: he turned him into a peony plant.

Now is the time to find these beautiful Peonies in full bloom. Stop by De Le Rose and pick up a little or a lot to fill your home with a little happiness and healing power.

Comerica Women's Business Symposium

Back in March, De La Rose had the privilege of sponsoring the Comerica Women's Conference hosted by Camille Jayne of the Irvine based company, The Jayne Group. The all women's event was held at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine and featured speakers from all over the Orange County area.

Comerica Women's Conference

De La Rose was offered the opportunity to provide a large arrangement to be given away in a raffle at the end of the evening, along with a $50 gift certificate for a future arrangement. We were also pleased to provide 200 long-stem red roses to each conference participant. It was truly a successful event and we were proud that De La Rose was invited to represent as one of Orange County's most prestigous floral designers.

Mother's Day Is Coming!!!

"A mother's love is like a garden. Her children are the seeds. And as they grow, she tends to them. Fulfilling all their needs. Her kindness is like sunshine that warms them as they flower. Her nurturing, like springtime rain, a soft and gentle shower. A mother's love is like a garden reflecting tender care. For wherever there is beauty, a mother's love is there." -Amanda Bradley

MEET HANNAH: Lead Floral Designer

Introducing our lead designer, Hannah Koo. From an early age, Hannah has always had a greater appreciation for the arts. She found her beginnings in the art of painting, which led to sculpture, and eventually developed into jewelry making. Today, she is a committed floral designer and uses her creative background in Fine Arts to design unique, art-inspired creations.

bio_photo

Design has always come easily to Hannah. Surrounded by creative parents, her love for colors and flowers grew as she watched her father further his career as a landscape artist, while her mom enjoyed a profession in the field of floral design. "Color and nature simply makes me happy" she says. "I truly believe that flowers have an ability to brighten your day."

Hannah received her B.A. in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine and gained additional expertise from the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles where she specialized in abstract/expressionist painting and sculpture. Soon after graduating, she took on a job at Trellis Florist where she spent many years training and expanding her skills in floral design. In addition to working in the floral industry, she also launched her own jewelry line, Hannah Koo Designs, where she handcrafts each and every individual piece.

After many years of working at high end floral boutiques in West Los Angeles, she decided to move down south to the coast of Laguna Beach, and landed upon a quaint shop called De La Rose, where she can be found working as their Lead Designer. Please stop in to visit her at our charming little boutique on Glenneyre Street, where she can help you with all your floral needs. She will custom create each piece unique to your individual character.

The final location of the shoot was at the spectacular oceanfront Montage Resort & Spa. The photographs were done by the talented Baldemar Fierro. The shoot consisted of a series of events: a proposal on the beach, followed by a romantic lunch in the room, then an afternoon at the spa, and finally a classy dinner at Montage's 5-star restaurant.
